Fished the river pretty hard today from Campbell Bridge just above the Garrisons sign; a pretty long run in some skinny water. If you're headed out, keep your game face on; there's a few spots that will test your skill. Water temps 55F morning and warming to 58F by early afternoon. Didn't catch my first fish until 11:00 AM. But then they picked up; mostly all on a jig bite but caught 3 small ones on a crankbait plus a 21" flathead; river needs some rain!

How did you access Campbell Bridge. Hwy N is closed south of Bourbon, by Blue Springs until May 17th.

Way to stick with it and find the fish.

Sharkey,

This was a few days before the bridge closing which if memory serves, was the following week. I've been going out from Robertsville area ramps lately and they've been very good to me. With the water levels being a bit thinner upriver this year, I decided to move down and don't regret it. A few weeks back, I had 4 Smallies in 30 minutes within 50 yards of each other that went 18", 17.5, 16" & 15" it's been a while since I was privledged with so many good fish in such a short time, especially in those areas holding the Spotted Bass: hope this is a sign of things to come!

Have you been floating downstream from the robertsville area or going up stream? I"m five minutes from the there, but didn't do to hot last year on that stretch with all the high water. I Usually just go to the upper meramec.

I really like the upper Meramec too but it's been so skinny up there I decided to go down to some old areas I fished long ago. I've been fishing upstream from Robertsville it has been good to me this year; I agree that last year was slim to none. However, around Deer Season it picked up and that was one of my motivations to return & so far, no regrets. I'm heading out real early Friday morning till about Noon or so, before the Memorial Day rush: will hopefully have some action.
