Fish Bork
Went to the Spring River today with the MSU Icthyology class field trip to seine and shock right under the 60 bridge. In years past we have always shocked little rainbows and wondered where are the big ones. Well today we found out. We pulled out three today, with the largest a big female pushing 5lbs and around 24in. a big male around 18in and a smaller one around 12. I was expecting some in the 12in range but man when we got that behemoth man that was wild. All three were released to live another day. Got some pics taken and as soon as I get them I will post them. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
ollie
On the same Spring River that eventually flows into Grand? I guess it's possible. They found rainbows below the falls in Joplin on Shoal creek some years back, but I know where those came from. How would rainbows show up in Spring River? "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek! Fish Bork
Yes same river. This is up by the headwaters just past Aurora. There used to be a hatchery upstream in the 70s?? I guess there is a self sustaining population now. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Rusty
I think this needed to be posted on the Spring River Missouri/Arkansas, Mammoth Springs section. A few topics up the board.
Terry Beeson
Russ... not the same Spring River... note the mention of Joplin, Aurora, etc... all in MO... West of Springfield The Spring River you are talking about starts at Mammoth Spring, AR an ends as it connects to the Black River at Black Rock, AR. It does not run in MO at all and is 120 miles east of Springfield. Not close to Hwy 60. It does shadow US Hwy 63 though. I know the upper part of THAT Spring River very well. Lived on the river for a while. Fished it daily. Of course, it may have changed a bit over the weekend with the 8-12 feet over flood that occurred... Its in MO. The river starts out SW of Aurora and flows north till just above Mt. Vernon then starts west just about following 96 HWY through Carthage and around Joplin. Then circles down through KS and into OK Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Wayne SW/MO
May just have to make a trip over there and check out the availability of wadable sections... You'll have to pass some good Trout water to get there. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Rusty
Fish Bork, Not trying to prove you wrong, I am just lost on where the Spring River crosses Hwy 60, other than Hwy 60 at Twin Bridges State Park near Wyandotte, Ok. I looked on Google, and followed it up North to Barton Co. in Missouri, but lost it there. Does if come back South that far?
