Members KC Bass Fanatic Posted April 19, 2012 Members Posted April 19, 2012 Excellent bite along the old (flooded) bank line. Find the nasty moss and that's where they are. Caught numbers on a shallow crankbait and size on a creature bait. Friday was my best day, fished shallow stump flats and had ~15lbs best 5 - all on crankbaits and creature baits in <6' water. We caught them all day long. I'm no expert but the spawn appears to be over. No females to be found, fry present in the shallows, and TONS of 12-14" bucks to be had up shallow (guarding fry?). There may be another spawn surge w/ the next full moon. Good luck and stay safe.

Members KC Bass Fanatic Posted April 20, 2012 Author Members Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks for the report! Any word on what the water temps and clarity were like? Yes, sorry. Water temp was 63-64 lake wide. I fished up Lindley to Haverstick where it was stained and muddy on Thursday. Friday I fished the dam area to Wheatland and it was clear. The bite seemed to be better in the clearer water.
Members Big Game Posted April 20, 2012 Members Posted April 20, 2012 Great, thanks for the info. I'm at Pomme the next 2 weekends and will post a follow up report as well.
MOPanfisher Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I don't think the bas spawn is anywhere near over, typical spawning her would be late april. If the water temp had stayed as warm as it was in march maybe, but the crappie spawn isn't anywhere near over yet. Bass probably have a little while to go yet. Lots of fat egg filled female crappie being caught some with flowing eggs but most not spawning yet, hopefully the weather will warm up again and they will spawn. With the lake slowly dropping I expect they will spawn fairly deep compared to other lakes. Lower end the water is VERY clean and may spawn deeper. But each year is different so who knows.
