Nick Williams Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I realized yesterday I might have enough time this weekend to get down to the LIR! It has been awhile. So just curious, what's hot and what's not?? I know I can always take some nymphs out but that wouldn't be my first choice, so just trying to get a heads up before I get out there. It's also to cold for any stripers to start running up the river isn't it? - Nick
DaddyO Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 If I didn't have family coming to town, I would go with you. Wooly Buggers in Olive, Brown or Black. Pheasant Tail Nymphs #14 or #16. Zebra Midges #16 and smaller in Black, Olive, Red, Yellow or Brown. Top water bite will probably depend on whether or not there is some kind of midge hatch occurring. Egg patterns will probably work too. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Nick Williams Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Ah bummer, I was about to email you too to see if you wanted to join. Alright, thanks for the advice. I never do well trying to match the hatch on the top, probably more so because I don't like buying flies and I haven't spent enough time to learn how to tie dry flies well enough. Oh well. - Nick
OKFlyFisher44 Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Stripers? What stripers : ) ?? Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

Nick Williams Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 The guy at Bass Pro is lying... Hahaha - Nick
JCWolfe Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Okay he is lying then. Lots of shad swimming around. Stripers have a good selection of shad and rainbows to eat. Okiemountaineer
OKFlyFisher44 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Lol. Just giving ya a hard time. It's no secret that stripers swim up the LIR to spawn every year from the Arkansas. I believe there r some resident fish in the river too. Finding them and getting them to eat a fly is the challenge : ) So worth it though. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
