Members Saltydawg Posted May 9, 2012 Members Posted May 9, 2012 From everyone's experience do these maps actually highlight good fishing areas (walleye) ? Who is responsible for compiling the specific fishing area info. Is it a goose chase ? I just want to catch a few walleye and am looking for area in general to concentrate efforts this time of year i.e.( Cedar ridge, mutton, state park etc) of course I'm not looking for specifics or anyone's honeyhole.
straw hat Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 That is how I got started on Stockton over 20 years ago. I started at the hot spots in the map and had good luck. I think you will find those areas pretty good.
fishbait3 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I use the maps marked spots and do good then i just start in areas that i think look good.
9LB Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I think the trick to catching walleyes all day is you need to pull up the trolling motor and move if your not catching any. They are either there and will bite a nigthcrawler or they are not. No sense in changing baits or colors like bass fishing. Drop your worm and if you dont catch any in 15-20 min or a few hundreds yards of trolling move on. Many days I can only seem to pull one or two out of a spot and then I move to the next spot and catch 1 or 2. Last weekend I found a shoreline and the bite was good all along it, all weekend long. Last night I got skunked at the exact same spot fishing the same way. I moved around the corner and caught 3 ? Nightcrawler on a jig, Slow death rig or a harness and just keep moving and fishing. This is the main reason I end up bass fishing. Versus pulling up and moving I often juts grab a different pole and get my fight on.
Nwtf gobbler Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I really gotta learn this walleye fishing stuff. I have absolutely terrible luck at it. You guys make it sound so easy. I think i need to go with domebody that can show me how to do it.
fishbait3 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 NWTF i dont have a boat but have been at spots on a boat that produce with others. I myself have only caught 1 walleye.
