vanven Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I have been using a cheaper cloth landing net for the last year. It needs to be replaced. The gaps in the netting are too big and occasionally a fish head pokes through and the gills get caught. It also smells like walking death. The cloth has become encrusted with goo from hundreds of fish. I have to keep it in the bed of my truck at night to dry. It has also started to contaminate my fly vest. So it's time for a new net! Does anyone have experience with the newer rubber netted fishing nets? I know they were heavy initially, but some new materials and processes have improved that. They are also easier to clean. I love having the net on my back and the quick release has been a wonderful addition to my fishing. Any suggestions on a new net and where they are available woudl be appreciated. Thanks, Jerod
Micheal Kyle Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I love the new rubber net very strong no hooks to get out and the fish will not get its head stuck and damage the gills. I love the Whacter Nets. When you stop by about the waders remind me and I will show you there new rubber model. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!

motroutbum Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 the whacter nets are awesome. I found out about them at show. rubber is the only way to go. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
vanven Posted October 5, 2006 Author Posted October 5, 2006 Hey Bum! Those whacter nets do look really nice. Now to just convince the wife that I do in fact need an expensive net, with my initials in the handle of course, despite the $100 I just dropped on a new vest... -jerod
Members Midge Posted October 11, 2006 Members Posted October 11, 2006 Check this site out: www.fisknat.com I know feather craft in st. louis carries these nets. I'm been thinking of buying one for myself. I believe it says somewhere on the site that the netting is only supposed to weigh 3 oz. These nets are not cheap though. They around $100.
jdmidwest Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 If your old net still has a good wood handle and bow, go to a dollar store and buy a nylon black laundry bag for a buck. Cut the bottom out and weave into your existing bow. Makes a great catch and release net for next to nothing. Otherwise, throw the net away and shake the fish off at your ankles to let him go. Nets just get caught on sawbriars and pop you in the head anyway.... "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
