I fished Bennett Spring this past Sunday... only after lunch with my mom for mother's day.

Seemed like the Pheasant Tail nymph was working best for me.

Curious if anyone else had been fishing there lately and how they were doing?

I fished it a couple of weeks ago. It was super crowded and the stream seemed to be lacking the numbers of fish that I am used to seeing on busy weekends. Most people I seen that were catching any kind of numbers were using globalls.

I fished it on saturday, little fish and not very many at that. The stream is really lacking in quality and quantity.

Interesting stuff. I definitely felt the same about quantity. Didn't see too many guys catching fish around me either.

The way that the stream is stocked is with an average over the last couple of years is what I understand. Last year was a pretty busy spring from what I can remember. The previous spring was also a busy spring. How exactly they put in fish is beyond what I can figure out. I think there are more people keeping fish from what I saw. Usually in zone 1 about half of the people there are keeping fish. This year and last year it seemed to me that I saw more people keeping stringers full of fish.

I caught decent numbers of fish even though I didn't see a bunch. The guys that I was with caught quite a few as well. Not setting the world on fire but steady. It seemed like they just quit biting though at one point. As soon as school is out and the vacationers all start pouring in the numbers will increase. I just hope that I can get down there and to Montauk to do more fishing this year. Montauk seemed like the fish were bigger on average and lots more fish to me. I fished there two Sundays ago and did pretty well. Most of the fish I caught were way nicer than the fish I have been catching at Bennett. You have to fish it a little different but after you figure it out the fishing to me is better.

Fished the park for an hour or so this last Saturday just to get a couple fish to take back to camp and eat (don't like keeping river fish when the park is so close and those fish will all end up in a hot oil bath anyway). Fish came easy enough but they were small , almost embarrassing to put on a stringer small. That place has definitely gone downhill from a quality fish standpoint in the last few years , still big ones in the stream I'm sure but the average sized fish has gone way down in my opinion.

Fished May 10-14 in zone 1 & 2, caught quite a few fish every day, Sat was a little slower as the clouds and little shower came through. Picked back up on Sunday. Size was about what we have seen this spring, larger than last year. I had 11 fish that were over a pound, the largest being 1#-7oz, weighed him as we wanted a big one to grill. Had to keep the fly clean, as more folks fished on Sat and then Sun a lot of moss was kicked up and was floating down stream. Sign says they are going to cut on 5-22. Most fish were caught on olive (bead head size 14-18 & mini jig size 12), had some luck with white thread mini jig. The week end was fairly light, had the place to our self on Thur/Fri/Mon, fished several times where there was nobody around.

Well, sounds like we'll just have to step our game up a bit more.

I'm glad to hear fishing is good at Montauk. I haven't made it there yet this Spring. I also hear Roaring River has been fishing well.

Was there this past sat and sun. Told wife we'd take her for mothers day and she said let's go! Both our boys (12 and 15 years old) caught a lot of fish Sat. stripping and wife did too. I had the best day dryflyin I've had in a long time there. Sunday not a lot of people and caught a good number of fish also. Various sizes and ran bigger than the last couple of years but not like they were 3-15 years ago!

montauk is fishing well and the caddis hatch is coming off nicely (or at least was last week) inside and outside the park

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.
