Members Mike Fisher Posted May 18, 2012 Author Members Posted May 18, 2012 You guys are great! I always find it amazing how helpful these forums are. I think my brother and I will do the Tipton Ford to Gateway on Sunday. I am an avid fisherman so hopefully the bass are bitin'. Buzz, I think one of your sons may have graduated about the same year as my little brother. I graduated in 98 and he graduated in 02. If anyone wants to join we would love the company! I can post what time we will be at Tipton Ford once I talk to the bro today. Mike
Members Mike Fisher Posted May 21, 2012 Author Members Posted May 21, 2012 Sorry I did not get a time posted, but with the chance of rain we were not sure if we would make it out today or not. I ended up going to Academy this morning and buying a kayak. My brother, 15 year old Nephew and I took the kayak and canoe and went from Allan Bridge to Lime Kiln this afternoon and had a great time! No real obsticles. We had to beach once and carry the canoe around a fallen tree but, I think it was because we went to the right when the creek split instead of left. It comes back together next to the railroad tracks. My Nephew caught the biggest bass he ever has caught. It was not all that big, but he has not fished very much. I would say it was maybe 3 pounds and 16 inches long. We had a great time. Thanks for all the information. I really like fishing out of the kayak much better than a canoe. It is very stable. Thanks again. Mike
Members CDC Posted May 21, 2012 Members Posted May 21, 2012 And plus, if it was so easy, ask Buzz why he dumped on this float. You know, I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw Cherry Corner get recommended. I am a little late on this one...but I would have to agree with what everyone has already mentioned. Another good easy float for the family would be Reddings Mill to Wildcat. Short and really no obstacles at all. The fishing can be decent but is usually not as good as it is further upstream. (I fished this stretch last night and caught about 7 on a spinner bait)

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Buzz Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 LOL. No problem. I can handle the ribbing. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members markw Posted May 29, 2012 Members Posted May 29, 2012 I took off today went cherry corner to lime kiln mostly just floating fished a little, I'm gonna say cherry corner is out for a newb that s curve now almost a u turn also couple more spots that I'll float not sure I'd try to take family until they're much more comfortable in a canoe. also i can't even count how many times I scraped rocks or trees and thats just with me and my pack canoe and I don't take much with me.I hope it rains soon or shoal may be a walking trip instead of floating trip.
Members CDC Posted May 30, 2012 Members Posted May 30, 2012 I floated Cherry Corner on Monday. I would have to agree that it might be a little too much for a family new to floating. You can portage around most of the stuff but that first S curve is a little tricky. My cousin and I floated from a spot on old scenic road down to undercliff (or whatever it is called now) on Saturday. It is about 3 and a half miles up stream. The first spot where the road comes close to the creek and there is a place to pull over. That is a pretty easy float and some good fishing. We Caught about 15 total on that strectch with a 15 inch largemouth a 15 inch smallmouth and a 10 inch rock bass. Not bad for a few hours floating. I talked them in to riding with me up to the put in and driving my truck back. Cost me $10 but that allowed me to only drive 1 vehicle and not have to worry about leaving my truck on the side of the road. Normally I don't worry about that but on Old Scenic road it is a little bit of a gamble (there is one person up that way that doesn't like to share the river).

Nice fish both of you. I've caught my biggest smallmouth in that area. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
