Addicted to Creeks Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 So im interested in getting started at least trying to hook into a striper. I am also completely unfamiliar with this type of fishing. What size rod, line, baits am i going to need. i would prefer to use artificials and my best lake would be those that have a boat rental service so any advice is appreciated thanks Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner
Members Polar Bear Posted February 20, 2014 Members Posted February 20, 2014 Norfork Lake, mid April to late May, head for the dam early and late, throw big topwaters around the dam area and main lake points in that area. Hang on tight! They're either on or off; not much in between.
Feathers and Fins Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Where are you located would help for which lake. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members SgtChuck64 Posted March 1, 2014 Members Posted March 1, 2014 On Norfork, Teal Point Resort has the best selection of rental boats. Tracey Ferry marina in the middle of the lake also rents boats. Put on a Zara Spook and hit when and where Polar Bear said. I also like to cruise down the middle of the lake and look for actively feeding stripers. Cruise towards them slowly with your trolling motor and then when you get close, turn it off and drift into them. But if youre after a trophy, hire Tom Reynolds of STR Outfitters. Youll be using live shad predominantly but you can also cast artificials for them. I caught my biggest striper ever on my first trip with Tom ( 25 lbs. ). Also, in a half day trip with Tom, I learned more in 6 hours than I did fishing alone the previous 4 years.
