ollie Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Was over at Shawnee Trails CA this morning bright and early and fished a lake I hadn't fished before. Was not sorry either! Started out throwing a buzzbait and right off the bat landed a nice fat 12" largemouth. Kept throwing the buzzbait but only ended up catching one more. Decided to switch over to a lizard and started up the other side. Wind was really picking up and of course it is flat over there so it felt like more than what it really was. Saw a beavers den and even got the crap scared out of me by one! I came up on the den and saw him out on the water, then he disappeared and came up right next to the yak and slapped his tail!! I thought I was going to tip over! After that I paddled some more and finally found them. Caught over 15 in three hours with the biggest at 16" and a couple of big bluegills thrown in the mix for good measures. Great morning to be out and didn't see another fisherman at all. I put up the yak after that lake then checked out a couple more ponds on my way home. I plan on hitting that spot again when the creeks get blown out or when the topwater starts heating up. Either way I was glad I went. Buzz Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Sounds like a better day than I had. I'm ready for the buzzbait bite to take off too. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Evolution Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I think I might know that pond/lake you are talking about. Have they cut the grass to the pond/lake? Hate the ticks out there. Nothing gets me more riled up then frogging the those lilly pads.
ollie Posted May 19, 2012 Author Posted May 19, 2012 Yes, the grass had been mowed at sometime in the last few weeks. I really enjoyed myself on this one.
