yaknar Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Kayaked from Kerr to Cox this weekend, first time this year and only floated it once last year. First, I did not find a boat but there was a car up river from Galena. Looked like it has been there for a while.Saw a couple deer. I started off with an inline spinner but caught too many small fish so I switched to swimbait and crawdad colored cranks. I was catching fish with the swimbait but something was bitting off the tails. Does this mean the lure is too big,I'm fishing too fast or their just little fish? I also tried out suspendots. Finally has anyone named their kayak? The best one I heard was a pastor who named his kayak " visitation " so if he was asked what he did on Saturday , he could say was on visitation....
Fishslayer88 Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 That car was about half way up that hill for years caught in the trees, nice eye sore now and not really any way to get it out.
mzrealfish Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 The Pastor is a pretty sweet name. My canoe is "The Royal Debacle". It took on that name one year when we tried to float the Big Piney at 13 feet. We all made it safely but the entire keel of my boat was remade from duct tape at the end of the 1st day. That was when my buddy Kevin tagged it. It has been sand blasted and bondo glassed about 8 time since then as well and keeps coming back for more. Mark
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I only call mine a name when it doesn't respond the way I think it should. The tail clipping depends. If they are on the weak side it could be anything, but if they are reaasonably secure then it could well be gar. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Osage Posted May 22, 2012 Members Posted May 22, 2012 Wow, the car fell. There was 'another' car up there in the same general area for years. The county went to the trouble of having it winched up the hill. Then, our indigenous promptly ran another off the cliff, the one you see in the picture. Looked like an older Ford or Mercury when it was halfway up the cliff. I was up through there a month ago so it's fell since then. A big rise will float in on down towards Galena I guess.
Members usmcgrunt Posted May 25, 2012 Members Posted May 25, 2012 I named my kayak "My Effen Kayak." It drew attention and got a few little kids in trouble when they said the name out loud in front of their parents... oopsies... lol
Fishslayer88 Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Floated kerr to JRO today it was a parking lot the entire trip but i managed to catch a few nice smallies, That car in the pics above is a bit smaller now looks like someone did some cutting on it all that's left now is the back tires and some of the suspension parts.

I was motoring upriver from Cox tonight to fish. I saw two guys in the water trying to tie styrofoam blocks on what was left in hopes of floating it down to Limberlost. Got to talking to them, they've been having a heck of a time getting it salvaged. They tried to float out with innertubes, someone stole the innertubes. They tried to run a winch cable ALL THE WAY from Limberlost, (man that's 3 to 4 hundred yards), and the cable kept getting snagged on the bottom of the river. So they cut it into pieces with a hot saw and took it out piece at a time in their jon boat. All that's left is what you saw, the front end and the engine. As I was coming back down they had abandon the idea of floating it out on the stryofoam blocks, at least for the evening. My hat's off to em' The locals here will probably run another one off the cliff now that it's gone.
