Well my South Dakota walleye trip just got cancelled so my back up plan is head down to the Niangua June 4-6. We will probably be there three days, fish the park one day, float/fish the river one day and wing it on the third day. I have stayed at Riverfront in the past just to float and was thinking about using them on this trip. I know there is some good trout fishing below the park but was curious if there was good smallmouth fishing in this stretch? Should I fish hard and take out at NRO or move a little quicker and go further? I assume if we don't get any rain that the river will be low, will I have any problems dragging through this stretch? Thanks in advance for any information.

I would fish to NRO or Barclay. Just don't plan on fishing the 2nd or 3rd. I wouldn't waste to much time between RF and the spring either.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Well if they just fish real early might be ok.I've fished below the Park while they was unloading Canoes and did fine.Plus Sunday might be ok all day because most go Home Saturday.

No, I will not be on the river on the 2nd or 3rd. I learned a long time ago to stay away from any sort of public land on the weekends.

How much further than NRO is Barclay?

I believe it's 3 or 4 miles. I haven't been on that stretch in awhile however. Everyone is different, but I hate to rush and I like to be able to work any area that looks or acts promising, so I tend to favor the shorter distance. The other hand is that fishing pressure always decreases below NRO.

...Kayaking from Bennett to NRO next Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on weather...I'll fly rod the whole way, and my buddy will spin it...

A strike indicator is just a bobber...
