TSmith Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Two days ago I went fishing at green bridge. My hopes where not very high when I saw the water level was down. However, me and my friend worked are way up stream and fished larger pools (if you can even call them that. They were at best 4-5 feet deep) We caught between the 2 of us about 30 fish. I would say 10 of them were goggle eye and the other 20 were smallies. some were the size of my hand and the average was about 8-10 inches. We caught them everywhere, but especially where the little water rushed into small to large pools. Great day of fishing and hope to get back other there soon. I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
moguy1973 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 2 days ago and you kept some? If so I'm pretty sure the Finley River is considered an ozark stream and the black bass season didn't start until today. Just sayin. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ozarkgunner Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 It's hard on the river to kill the smallies. I'll share some walleye fillets if needed. Angler At Law
TSmith Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Yeah I kept one. 99% of the time I practice catch and release. The one time I actually take one. DANG IT... Thanks for informing me about the Ozark Stream season. I had never heard of that before. I did some reading up on the Missouri Department of Conservation. Thanks again, wow I feel like an idiot... Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
TSmith Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 One more question. On the MDC they say that "Impoundments" and "Other Streams" bass can be fished for year round. However, for Ozark streams its 5/26/12 through 2/28/13. My question is what defines a stream as an Ozark stream? I assume its locational to the "Ozarks" but what areas are in the Ozark region? I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
moguy1973 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm not 100% sure but all streams and rivers south of the Missouri River are considered ozark streams and are part of the black bass management season. Plus there are a few streams that are designated special smallmouth management areas that have set limits even during season. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm not 100% sure but all streams and rivers south of the Missouri River are considered ozark streams and are part of the black bass management season. Plus there are a few streams that are designated special smallmouth management areas that have set limits even during season. It's been awhile since I've read it, but I believe this is correct. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
TSmith Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 Yeah I knew there were length and limit rules. However, thanks soooo much for clarifying that to me. That the reason Im on this forum. I have A LOT to learn. Thanks a ton! I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
RSBreth Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 And to further clarify - the Ozark Mill lake at the Ozark City Park is still considered the river, not an "impoundment", so Ozark river Black Bass regs still apply. No Black Bass may be kept in the closed season. Like every one stated - we tend to frown on keeping Smallmouth from the streams. You'll learn.
TSmith Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 K noted. Thanks again. Catch and release all smallies. I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
