Members Jeff_L Posted May 31, 2012 Members Posted May 31, 2012 Is there any way to know the river level above Greer, other than first hand reports? I'm sure this has been discussed around here before, but would be nice to have a USGS gauge at Thomasville, like the Upper Jack's has. Or is that the sort of thing locals don't want because it would encourage too much traffic? In the alternative....any first hand reports? I assume the river is very low for this time of year. How much of a bump is the current rain giving it? Would it be miserable for loaded canoes? Thanks for any info.
Stoneroller Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 this system that just moved through barely dropped any rain on most areas. the air is so dry most of the rain evaporated as it fell. Looks like SW MO got the best amounts, but none of that ends up in the 11 point. most of the measurable rainfall stopped around Mt Grove. Joplin, Spfld, Rolla, Kirksville got around an inch to an inch and a half. That might bump the river levels a tiny bit, but it won't be much and it will only be for a few hrs. Too bad too, we really needed far more rain over a longer period and a wider area. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Members Jeff_L Posted May 31, 2012 Author Members Posted May 31, 2012 Wow, the NOAA precip page shows between 1/2 and 1" for basically the entire 11 point drainage basin in the past 24 hours. I know that isn't nearly enough to catch up, but I thought it might help. STL area didn't get much out of it, though. http://water.weather.gov/precip/
Stoneroller Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 yeah i was looking at their page zoomed in on missouri. it may have not been updated at that point but it was showing less than .25 inches east of west plains when I saw it. Huzzah got 1.5 inches last week? or the week before and it took the river up by a half inch or so for about 4 hrs then it dropped back down to dry. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Members Jeff_L Posted May 31, 2012 Author Members Posted May 31, 2012 I'm afraid it is so dry it will require several inches before it makes much of a difference. Hoping someone with eyes on can give a report on the area above Greer.
2sheds Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Brian and Ryan are your best source for all things on Eleven Point; from Thomasville all the way down to The Narrows SH142). http://11pointcanoe.com/ Email: canoe@ortrackm.org Phone: 417 778 6497
Brian Sloss Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 It is doable, but if you are loaded down with gear, think twice. We got and inch and an half yesterday and another half inch today. No real effect on the levels though. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Members Jeff_L Posted June 4, 2012 Author Members Posted June 4, 2012 Brian, thanks. I assume the most recent rain didn't do much to help Cane Bluff - Greer. We will have 2 guys per canoe and a cooler, but will pick up our camping gear at Greer. Any sense for whether it is worth doing Cane Bluff to Greer this weekend? We would really like to do it, and dragging a few shoals is probably OK, but we don't want to spend the entire morning pulling a canoe. Thank you very much for your assistance, and everyone else here. Is there any another access between Cane and Greer that would be better?
Stoneroller Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 There is no public access that I'm aware of between Cane and Greer. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Supreme Commander 'The Dude' of Kayak fishing www.fishonkayakadventures.com fishonkayakadventures@yahoo.com
Members Jeff_L Posted June 4, 2012 Author Members Posted June 4, 2012 I was looking at County Road 416, google shows it as providing access, but could be private or no river access.
