Greetings,

Is it safe to run a 19'bass boat w/ 200 bewteen houseman access and holiday island. On towards the dam I wouldn't dream of it. I have never been past parker bottoms fly fishing for trout.. Also if my boat will work, would it be safe between to two at night with a good spot light. I am coming to beaver on 18 Jun for 4 nights and am planning on trying to get some shad for the stripers. I have caught them using bluegill but want to give the shad a try this year. Thanks again.

When they start generating on a hot day you get some really thick fog, but I have seen people ski down to Houseman's and lot of house watching 25-30 ft inboards run down there so any bass boat will not have trouble. Putting in at Holiday Island is a lot nicer than putting in at Houseman's. I have put in at Houseman's and making it back into the fog sucks, if you are running back to Holiday Island it is easy to beat the fog.

My GPS has a good map with the main channel marked good(helps between Beaver Town and Holiday Island) and stay off plain Between Houseman's and Beaver Town , it is just local courtesy lots of small craft, wadding and such good place to troll any way. The bottom is soft sand 80 % of the way. I can get on plane at 12mph but when I see another boat ahead I slow down and pass a 5mph, just the way it is expected in that area. Took some yelling and fist shacking to teach me that........

Thanks so much for the info and the warning. I was taught courteous boating from childhood, back in the day when you actually came off plane and idled past other boats on the water within 300ft. or gave them a wide birth when able. I have a Lowrance HDS 8 w/insight depth finder and an LSS1 but not sure how detailed it is on the White river though. Thanks again.

F and F is spot on with his advice, as usual. If the lake keeps dropping, somewhere around 910 you will begin to encounter shoals above Beaver and you will need to stay to the channel between Holiday and Beaver.

Lowrance has a free map of Beaver on their web site and it includes a good map of the tail waters all the way up to Big M....

Thanks for all the insight guys. I assume the 910 level is for Table Rock causing the Beaver tailwaters to get low or does the power generation stop on Beaver until the lake rises? Anyway, I guess I will put in at Holiday and work my way back towards Houseman (during daylight) and see how it looks or until I think it's getting unsafe or I find enough shad. I would be happy with a dozen or so descent size ones. I have a good shad tank so I think I can keep them alive overnight and get out early on the lake.

I guess if that doesn't work , I have some good submersible lights and will try them on the lake at night. Any advise on getting shad using lights in the middle of June; creeks, docks, open water etc.? If all else fails I will just have to go to plan C and catch some bluegill. I do know how to do that.

Finally, any ideas as to the drive time (pulling a boat of course) from Beaver Dam to the Holiday ramp?

Again, thanks for all the help and I will let you all know how it all went when I return.

Holiday to Houseman is a pretty safe run so you should be ok.... Shad in the river I would be keeping a very close eye on generations and get the shad when they get stunned.... Keeping shad alive all night without a big 500g tank might be very hard unless they are good gizzards then possibly... Drive time from Holiday to the dam depending how you drive is 20 to 30 minutes..... Getting shad at night on Beaver is doable I usually check long points and creek mouths and never pass up a mud flat as thats where most the big gizzards will be.

Have fun

Pushing water out of Beaver does very little for lake levels down by Holiday Island where it starts to widen out into a lake, you will see on your depth finder quick when you run out of the channel. It winds from the right side across from Holiday Island to the left side as you get down to Beaver town. It only takes one slow run and you will get the hang of it.

You can call a day ahead of time and get the generation schedule, if you at Houseman's when generation starts you can follow the 50 degree water back to Beavertown and shad will lay on their sides on top of the water.Grab them up, put them on a hook with a split shot and throw toward swirls and no telling what will hit it....trout,whites, walleye, largemouth and they will all hold up in the same hole.
