Quillback Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Jeb took me out this AM in his boat (thanks again!), we launched at 0500, headed over to Ventris where I picked up this 4 lb. fish right off the bat, but Jeb had beaten me to the punch, landing a nice 2 lb. chunk minutes before I got mine. Things slowed down, we tried some off shore humps that held some fish yesterday, but couldn't get a good bite, so we headed up War Eagle. Neither one of us had fished WE very much, but we managed to catch another dozen or so LM's fishing jigs and 10" worms around laydowns and points. Not a hot bite but we'd pick up a fish every now and then. Great day to be out, fairly cool for this time of year.
Stump bumper Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nice fish! From PC to War Eagle is a good run, how far up WE did you run? Did you fish any of the old foundations across from the water intake on the way down?
Quillback Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 We went up a little past the WE launch. Didn't try that area across from the water intake.
jeb Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 We went most of the way up, past that camp area. It was a pretty good run, but that's why big motors make sense on lakes like Beaver. Water was for sure more stained down there. I don't think we caught a spot all day, for sure no smallies. So nice to find the LM's. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Stump bumper Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 I know what you mean, those river fish act a lot different then the fish in the main lake. I am amazed how shallow they will stay when the water gets hot. It is just hard for me to run from PC to WE without hitting a dozen or so holes on the way down. Guess I have a little ADD(squirrel!!) If you stop on that cliff right past the power lines on the right hand turn you will find plenty of spots on a drop shot all year long......they seem to like to stay near deep water and chase the shad balls.
jeb Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 We did hit a few spots on the way down, but didn't much spend much time at any of them. Either cathcing dinks, or just not feeling it. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
