flyrodman Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I fished the area at the Joe Crighton access for a couple of hours today. I didn't catch anything despite throwing a variety of soft plastics and some jigs . I did see a few largemouth, one of them in the 16"-18" range. What are the best lures to be using this time of year? Tight Lines! ~Luke Luke Walz
Members booger90 Posted June 13, 2012 Members Posted June 13, 2012 Try a bass colored small minnow i used one on table rock all day and caught 6 bass, all were small except one which weighted about 2lbs
TSmith Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Iv been having a ton of luck on this soft plastic worm. It has a 1/16 or a 1/8 jig head on it. If been catching a TON of smallies and a few very nice sized largies. I believe the trick is to make the plastic smaller to catch more fish. However, the better quality (on average) is found by casting a larger plastic. Here is a pic of what iv been using. Iv also had better luck with a dark green like this or anything dark in color. I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
npierceuark Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 tsmith, I've used that setup quite a bit also with very good success. Flyrodman, I would recommend 3 rigs that I almost always seem to have success on. 1. split shot rigged mini lizard (watermelon red speck) dead drift through moving water 2. pumpkin tube jig. 2.5" size is perfect. work deep holes next to current 3. Rebel Pop'r, use early and late in the day for some killer topwater action. If you can't catch fish on the James with these let me know and I'll go with you and see what's going wrong. Tight lines
flyrodman Posted June 13, 2012 Author Posted June 13, 2012 I went to the Rivercut golf course and waded upstream from there. Right off the bat I caught a 12" largemouth. After that, I went upstream to another hole and hooked into a nice catfish. Both were caught on a white Texas rigged baby paca craw. Tight Lines! ~Luke Luke Walz
Jack Jones Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Not a bad deal! How long were you out on the water near Rivercut, and were those the only ones caught? "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
flyrodman Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 I was only out for two hours and yes, those were the only ones I caught. Luke Walz
OzarksRiverman Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 That's an interesting approach to photographing your catches--while they're still on the line. I'm going to have to try that out.
