Anyone want to start a fall big brown fly swap ? 16 people max. 8 week deadline.

( This should be a summer swap so we can get all flies tied by August 15th )

I am not starting or heading up the swap.. just wondering if you guys want to do one.

Phil - you should get in on this.

I'm talking big flies... sz 10 and above need not apply. Only big ugly yummy meaties.....stuff big bows and browns would love to chomp on and hang onto.

I would like to do Borger's Down and Dirty Mouse....

I'd jump in on this, when you thinking they be due? I'll probably go with something articulated

EDIT: sorry, just saw the date, I was driving earlier when I posted that.

I missed the brown run for the most part last year and definitely want to hit it a lot harder this year. I've hit taney a lot and have YET to catch a brown. starting to get a bit infuriating.

I'm leaning towards a circus peanut, in white probably. I caught a couple good rainbows a few weeks ago at night.

I've been in quite a few swaps on another forum so I know how the gig works.

Sorry just saw this too, I'll also head up the swap if no one else wants to to make this thing happen but would prefer not to.. but will if absolutely necessary, and i think twelve tiers would probably be more suitable because these will be big flies, but I have no problem with more.

OK, we'll call it on. I can host and have no qualms with it. 16 tiers max and Like Brian said lets call it an August 15th date.

When you have your flies done PM me and I'll send you my address. You can either include a few dollars for an extra envelope and postage or go ahead and fold up a self addressed envelope in your package. Please toe-tag all of your flies with your user name so that we know what comes from who. I don't have a suitable camera so if someone would be willing to take a pic of all of the flies when they get them it would be greatly appreciated.

Some food for thought. Even if these flies are big and bulky that doesn't mean they will take a long time to tie. Tie them in steps.. i.e. do all of the backs and then all of the fronts and it tends to go pretty fast. I'll want this to go smooth for everyone, which means no late flies please. When you say that you will tie, start them, don't push them back to the last moment because that makes it less enjoyable for everyone else and I will do my VERY best to get the flies out ASAP.

To keep from flies being in too late i'd be game for setting a "you can't join this swap after "this" date" so that we don't have someone joining last second and then everyone having to wait longer for their flies.

I know there are a lot of talented ties on this board and let's see some of that work. It should be fun and for those who have never participated in a swap feel free to join in and it's a great way to add a wide variety to flies to your boxes.

Lancer - thanks for taking on the swap! Lets set the "no later than this date" at July 25th... what do you think ?

****** EDIT - Due date is now August 20th ******

Now we just need for the fly tying peeps on the board to jump on board!

We should list the recipes on this page so its easy for everyone to look up.

Agreed, I think we could put it a bit later than the 25th, if only because two flies a day would get them done in plenty of time if they started on August first, which is kind of what I was thinking.

Spread the word.

Fairly new tier or not it's a GREAT way to perfect a pattern. Let's face it after you've tied 15 of any given pattern they are going to look pretty good.

They are also a lot of fun to see how different people tie different flies, and it's a great way to add some variety to your boxes.
