TSmith
Im taking a buddy of mine fishing on the james sometime this coming week. I get in under 65, and paddle downstream to the rail road bridge. We always have a ton of luck with plastics and I know what works. However, I was wanting some advice from all you fly fishers out there that have fished the james before (because I have not). Im planning on using wooly buggers (which I have had some success with on smaller rivers). Any other flys i should try out? And does anyone have any good fly fishing spots? I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.
Jason R.
(disclaimer- I'm in Arkansas and havent fished the James) BUT I would tie up some "crazy dads" and maybe some stuff with bunny strips like leaches or sculpins- those are solid general patterns in my experience. Clousers are always a good bet. http://flyinthesouth.com/
chub minnow
Ditto - Crazy Dad's and Clousers for deeper water. Maybe a little more brightly colored than what you would use in a smaller, clearer stream.
Wayne SW/MO
Besides the wooly's I would add clouser's, gray over white and chartreuse over white. A couple of popping bugs wouldn't hurt, yellow is always good. The crazy dad or foxee redd clouser would be another. With the above you would have all the water columns covered. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
