Members dinosaur Posted June 20, 2012 Members Posted June 20, 2012 Anyone? I fish most of the MO state lakes around the KC area and haven't seen any other paddlers out.
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Dinosaur, how old are you? Are you really a Dinosaur? I'm guessing you're serious with this question though so... the Missouri River would be my first choice. Wear your life vest. I'd imagine the Little Blue would be a good run after rains on the upper end. The lower Little Blue is great for froggin' at night around Sibley before it enters the Missouri. Skeeter heaven though. In reality, there ain't a river worth floating/fishing around KC but that's just my opinion bud. Drive a little south and you'll find plenty of stuff within a few hours that's a heck of a lot better. On a side note, PM Glory Daze. He might have some info for ya. Good luck! HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
woodman Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 You better stay away from the 4 Jackson County lakes...I call it their "Don't Ask Don't Tell'' policy when you have to buy a sticker to put a kayak or canoe on one of their lakes....When you go in the office to get a sticker and you don't ask they aren't about to volunteer any info..not even to pick up a pamphlet about their regulations ( which is on steroids compared to the State of Mo.) When would the thought of restricted launch sites enter into the mind of a paddler on a public lake...stocked by the MDC.... The park rangers (INFORCERS) are about the most un-compassionate bunch I have ever run into.....yea what's a warning ticket..not.... I grew up in this area learned to water ski at Prarie Lea lake back in the early 60's.... Moved out of the clutches of Jackson County and Kansas City 10 yrs ago..to Laffayette County.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Used to ski at Prairie Lee myself Woodman back in the early 70's. My dad was an Independence cop for 27 years and he'd pick me up at home about 7 AM and take me to the lake with his buddies. Not sure I'd wanna swallow a bit of water out of that lake now. woodman Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 My dad worked at TWA back then....we had a 15' wood runabout with a 70 hp. merc.. Dad had a friend Bill ,who turned out to be part owner of Magic Woods back then, and he built a wood runabout .... One day at that lake his wife was pulling him on skies and collided with another lady pulling a skier....The result Bill built another boat...Man the times back in 64-65.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 I always liked the Big Blue, Indian creek and Kernoodles, does that tell you how old I am. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members dinosaur Posted June 20, 2012 Author Members Posted June 20, 2012 I fish North Lake Harrisonville, Lone Jack Lake, Watkins Mill Kearney, Maple Leaf Higginsville. I'm going to venture out and try some new ones this year. There are loads of them within 75 miles of the house. I DON"T fish the Jackson County lakes. I have been questioned about my sticker once. Didn't even have my kayak in the water. Won't happen again. Plus, too many boats and jet skis. I try to stay on water that does not allow big motors. "Dinosaur" you ask? I'm over 50, it's an old joke. So does everyone go elsewhere to kayak fish? I'm just trying to get a feel on how many folks kayak/canoe fish in the area.
ness Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Don't know much about the MO side lakes, but I occasionally canoe Shawnee Mission, Kill Creek on the KS side. Need to try out Lenexa. There are some strip pits with public access south of KC. I don't see too many kayaks or canoes on any of them. I will occasionally see some folks on the Kaw when I drive over it. John
ness Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I always liked the Big Blue, Indian creek and Kernoodles, does that tell you how old I am. Kernoodles . Only a select few folks will know where that one is. Not much going on around there from what I can tell. I work about a mile from there. John

I work about a mile from there. I thought I heard they drained, filled and built houses there? Dinosaur you should do a search on the MDC Atlas. Do an advanced search in the KC district and pick "fishing ponds and lakes". I know there are several in your area. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
