Nick Williams Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 So thinking about the whole nymph inch rig... A lot of the rigs I am hearing/reading about have like three or four different pieces. What knot are you guys using between each piece? I usually use a triple surgeons, I think, between my leader and tippet. Will that work for nymphing? I also read somewhere that some knots are less productive in power transfer and turning flies over? Is that true, and if so what knots should I be using? Thanks for all your help! - Nick
Danoinark Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Nick....best advice I got from a sage fly fisher..."don't make this complicated". The surgeons knot will work fine. I prefer the perfection loop as I can tie it quicker and make it smaller it seems. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 One big advantage of the perfection loop that Dam mentioned is that if you loop to loop between tippet and leader you preserve the length of the leader. As your tippet dwindles from re-tying it's easy to replace or change size as needed. I also agree, don't make it complicated, the only things really important are getting the right nymph very close to the fish without alarming them. The only time a perfect turnover is important is in dry fly fishing. When nymph fishing its much lass a worry and you have lots of time to perfect it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
