Ted Calcaterra Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Where are all the posts about big browns in upper Taneycomo? It should be about that time. Am I just missing it somewhere on this board? I am waiting to hear reports of the second outlet looking like Bennet on opening day.
twosets Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Ted Check out "Here is my fishing report " by leonard for some browns "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 12, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 12, 2006 They've been lined up for weeks at #2... "it's isn't just for autumn". There are a good number of browns already below the dam. Many of them in the 16-24 inch range. They are skiddish during the day unless it's windy or cloudy. Of course there are a bunch around outlet #2 during the day... but there are lots at rebar and below rebar to big hole.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 12, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 12, 2006 Look at the map-link under the pinned forum - Taneycomo. These are just below the dam, only accessed by wading if the water is off.
Snow Fly Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Or Scuba Diving if water is running! I tried that about 4/5 years ago, but forgot the tanks and mask!!! One thing about the REBAR HOLE when you no longer can see the rebar you are in DEEP trouble. "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"

One thing about the REBAR HOLE when you no longer can see the rebar you are in DEEP trouble. Seriously, only funny because you are OK... We lost one of our NEAFF club memebers on the Little Red about three years ago like that... As for the big Browns, I hope to get in on that action soon... Snow Fly Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Terry: One positive about the whole incident, it taught me respect for what fast running water can do. To this day I still don't know what really happened. When I arrived at Taney early morning the water was higher than normal but no current,so I waded out to rebar hole with the water being about one foot deep from outlet # 3 to Rebar. I started fishing and they were hot to be caught. Having a great time for an hour or so then noticed the water getting faster and higher. So I started to wade back to stairs at outlet #3 within 100 ft of stairs current really fast and it put me to my knees three times{2/3ft deep} before I was able to stand, finally and get the heck out! Man I was sure glad to hit the high ground. Never did the horn blow while I was there. From that day on when I get there, even if I know they are not running water, I call the dam number to hear the recording. Terry Beeson Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Don't even rely on the recording. Rely on your senses. Be aware of a landmark on the water. If you notice it going under water, get out... or at least adjust accordingly. I was creek fishing last spring and stepped down a ledge to retreive a fly hung on a root wad. As I came back to my spot, I forgot about the ledge. Luckily, I only got a cup or two of water in my waders and it was in very slow current, but with bad knees and a spare tire, it wasn't easy getting up. I need to start using a wading staff... Also, what about spiked wading boots? Snow Fly Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I wonder what a guy would look like running around Taney with yellow arm swimmies like little kids wear in swimming pools? "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
