There was an AWESOME article in this month's American Angler magazine about hand-made leaders. You should pick up a copy and give it a read!

I use #8 Yo-Zuri Hybrid to build these and they work well for 6-8wt. You can go up or down accordingly.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wow that is really simple. Do the twists stay just like that while fishing or does the twist in that cause the leader/fly to twist?

No the leader stays intact. I don't knot mine between the butt and the mid section. I put the strands through the furled leader and add a touch of glue. All you need then is a tippet and you're ready to go.

I feel like doubling it over twice would make a bulky butt section. Do you notice it being stiff or anything?

I've been using the sinapore twist for a few months and they have been working out really good for me. I've made them with 2 lb tippet mat'l all the way up to 20 andes mono for striper fishing.

Butt sections are stiffer. There's a rule in fly fishing, heavier turns over lighter. In order to turn the leader over you need a taper, just like flyline tapers.

I know someone will say they use a straight piece of mono with no problems, but they're throwing a fly heavy enough that its momentum straightens the leader and not the leader carrying the fly. A good rule of thumbs is if you can throw a fly a little distance with your hand, you probably don't need a tapered leader, if not then you need the leader to carry the fly.

That's genius. I've never heard of that before. I'm gonna go throw all my flies later and check that out. So how big of flies do you throw with that leader?
