So for trout and 5 wt or 3 et u just use a smaller piece of mono is that correct. I was thinking of going and buying some stern fishing line of different pound test and making leaders that tapered that way. Anyone have any reviews with that method

That's genius. I've never heard of that before. I'm gonna go throw all my flies later and check that out. So how big of flies do you throw with that leader?

I can turn over #4 poppers, Stealth Bombers, etc.that are large air resistant flies that need encouragement to straighten out. As I said I use #8 hybrid. I don't think the brand is really important, as long as it's a decent one. The bad thing about a lot of cheap mono's is the fact they are generally inconsistent in diameter.

I suspect that a person might match his fly line weight to mono weight and be very close.

i know from the research I have done they express mating the diameter of fly line to butt section where it is just a slight difference. So if you use the same ib line for ever leader then your not to concern about that is that right? How would u find the ib test or diamter of the end of your fly line if you dont have box that it came in any more?
