Tim Smith Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 This one is finally contained and burning out. 2 dead. Looting. 350+ houses burned.
ness Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Pretty wild video. I really never gave it a lot of thought when I heard about this stuff out in California. I just figgered it was folks who built up in the mountains and knew the risk. Not so in Colorado Springs (and, probably not in CA either in reality). These were neighborhoods pretty much like the ones a lot of us live in -- backing up to undeveloped areas. Amazing how random some of the destruction was. In the aerial photos, you'd see several houses burne3d to the ground completely surrounded by homes that somehow got missed. My cousins ended up ok on this, but it was pretty touch-and-go for them for several days. Fire was within sight of the house and their business for the ones on the east side. Other cousin's cabin over near Cascade was fine too. They kept it contained on the other side of 24 from her. John

Well there's a little good news. With the recent rains the fire bans are relaxing. Things should be better for a while now.
