Members Cad Posted July 13, 2012 Members Posted July 13, 2012 Weird night last night. I headed out last night after 4 calls to the darn from 8-8:45 stating no generation. Thought I would get there right after dark, as I am pulling in around 9:15 I call one more time and yep you guessed it they had a unit running. So I venture up to #1 to try my luck. Not having much I head up past #1 to cable and finally land one around 10:30. Next few casts I realize my drift isn't happening anymore and the water is dropping. I call the number again and now the water is off (no horn). Since the flood I don't really like above #2 with no current, so I head down to below the rootwad. There I land a another 14 inch rainbow. Next cast something thumps my purple hibernator and I set the hook the fight is on. Several good runs and I know I got something big on, get it close and I can see it's Leonard's brown or Leonard's brown's brother. I am guessing 23 inch carp, lip hooked on a purple hibernator given to me by guess who? Leonard. No picture, I was by myself and trying to keep it from breaking my 5x tippet. Didn't expect that at all, was slow other than that but nice to be out.
Dylan Cluver Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 It was equally as slow for us last night, we started at #2 then worked down to big hole, and then walked our way up to the flats. Very slow, my brother had the most out of us with 4, and my buddy only had 1 which was a white bass.fished from about 9:30 to 1:45. No one gripes about obese fish.
laker67 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 FYI Cad, they only blow the horn to signal new generation. Nothing when they shut it down. And speaking of the horn, they have been blowing the boat ramp horn and not the one at the dam during the night. In years past this meant no new generation, and so far this season it is the same. I don't have a clue why they do that, does anyone know? You need to be on guard when they sound it, but so far it means nothing. IF the one at the dam sounds, it is the real thing.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I left a message for Stan Jones, the Superintendent of TRD to call me back about the horn(s). Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

Members Ozark Ranger Posted July 14, 2012 Members Posted July 14, 2012 ya, when the horn by the dam blows, its time to start making your way to shore and watching the water level and current. thats not for fishing purposes, but for safety. -'84 Ranger 395V w/ 225 Mariner EFI "A Bad Day Fishing, Is Away Better Then A Good Day Of Work"
