gonefishin Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 So what are you saying, we should double the limit just for them? Don't know if that would appease Anderson and Maines or not. Yeah I suppose your are right. It would take more than a few small stockers to fill their mouths. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. gonefishin Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 hehehehehehehe - Griffin, THAT is good!! Most of you that have read my posts already know that I am a C&R guy - don't mind people keeping small legal fish to eat - but think there should ABSOLUTELY be a moratorium on keeping big Browns in the fall because they are WAY too easy to catch and or snag. I can just say that I am thankful and glad that as a man I don't judge my selfworth or feel I have to show others my "manlyness" by having a dead animal on my wall. I actually feel a bit sorry for those who do. There is no reason other than pride or greed to kill something for a trophy. A picture is just as good for showing someone you caught "the big one". Duuuuuuude - it's 2006 - We've moved past that era in civilization. JS Cheets!!! Where ya been buddy. Glad to see you are still hanging around out in far left field. One thing I can agree with you on is the idea of a moratorium on big browns in the fall. However I think if there is a moratorium it should extend at least a mile below the dam and fishing for them in that area during the fall should be banned. D.O. is too low and stresses the fish during the fall the added stress of being caught is highly lethal to the fish. If I were a gambling man I would bet that during the fall C&R anglers kill far more Browns than the catch and keep anglers. Of course if being a C&R fisherman eases your concious.......... Been playing any music latley? In addition to guitar and mandolin I have recently taken up the banjo. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
jscheetz Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Hey GF! - I just don't get on here enough - been too busy - mostly been locked in the studio on a couple of records right now so haven't even gotten out to fish much lately. Banjo? Sounds like you're heading deeper in to the south as we go - do do do do do do do do do <-- (think banjo and movies, and a kid in a rocking chair etc etc) Now if you WERE a gamblin man, I think I may have to take your bet - you with 3 fish on a stringer and me catching 3 and lettin 'em go...... better get your wallet out. JS Nah because when I caught my limit I would be done, pick up and go home. You on the other hand would catch and relase how many in a day. Through shear numbers of fish caught, stressed and handled you would kill more than me. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Tightline Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I agree GF ,from what I have observed there are very very few Trout taken home from the Dam area ,but there are hundreds released every week and it seems like the bigger fish are the ones that are stressed the most from the longer fight and usually the ones you see floating dead ! I'd make the same bet. Griffin I did my kids the same as you , and I don't regret it one bit. They are fine sportsmen as adults. scheetz I think some show there manlyness by how they post on here ! But what do I know I'm just a corn licquored hillbilly !
jscheetz Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 GF - so you'd just be sittin at home cookin up supper while I'd still be out there killin fish eh? That ain't very cordial of you! But what do I know I'm just a corn licquored hillbilly ! Yeah but you are a licquored up hillbilly that can type and run a computer! So that helps! scheetz I think some show there manlyness by how they post on here ! So now we gotta show our manlyness by killin stuff AND posting properly???? Geeeesshhhh - this is gettin harder all the time!! JS "We are living in the midst of a Creation that is mostly mysterious - that even when visible, is never fully imaginable". -Wendell Berry-
gonefishin Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Cheetz you are a Hoot. ROFL Tightline maybe we should get together sometime and play banjos. I would rather be fishin'. It's better that way......the kid is so ugly that he'd ruin most pictures of him with fish. AND.........if you think that we've somehow moved past the point in civilization where self assuredness for an 8 year old boy can't be enhanced by prowess in the woods and on the water, including cleaning and eating his catch/kill....then you need to play catch and release with your head and remove it from your...........uh......................net. griffin
Members Charley Hart Posted October 21, 2006 Members Posted October 21, 2006 I don't think many, if any, are 'snaggers'. I'm sure every one of the anglers fishing outlets #1 or #2 would rather fair hook a fish than foul hook one. I foul hooked several fish below rebar the other day... it will happen anytime you're fishing for stationary fish while you're getting the fly down to them- right in their face- and they don't take it. It catches a fin or catches the bottom and when you quick-set the hook, it catches them where you don't want to. I have fished the outlets many times. I don't get to hit Taney like I would like to. Spend a lot of time pulling panfish out of ponds up north. But I hope no one thought I was snagging just because I was fishing an outlet. I have only caught a few that weren't hooking in the mouth and those were like you said accidents. Heck one of the worst hooked trout I ever caught was in a pond! I know it made a run at my wooly and it must have been right before I jigged it up! I thought I caught Moby... but was very disappointed to have hooked it in the dorsal fin. I was in no way trying to harm a fish. I let him/her go after a long fight. Hopefully he/she lived long enough to get harvested in the spring. Like I said I think too many people get upset about fish they think should be released. I think all of the guys who come and net the blue gills I fish for (near Liberty, MO) should let them go! But that is cause I like catching the hand sized slabs (which take years to mature). It really steams me, but perfectly legal. Ethical? Well if you are a catfisherman you will say yes. If you are like me you hate it. As long as you are NOT a poacher...
