bferg Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 My brother in law is in town and wants to go fishing...since I sold my fishing boat I am kinda looking for other options close to home. I have never been on the lower section of the tailwaters- would it be safe to float say from 62 bridge to Houseman in a canoe? With the water as low as it is is there opportunity to get out of the boat and fish or is it so deep that we have to stay seated to fish? Any help would be great! b
ollie Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 I've fished down to the 62 bridge before in my yak, but had waders on in case I needed to get out. Water wasn't running either so I have no idea how fast you would be going. Some others on here could probably answer better. Members cfox Posted July 27, 2012 Members Posted July 27, 2012 If there is no generation there won't be much current, but the water is generally too deep from the 62 bridge to Houseman to wade. There are plenty of places to get out on the bank. I generally put my Yak in at Houseman and paddle upstream to the bridge then fish back to Houseman. Good deep pools and some shallower gravel bar areas. Plenty of trout. I've caught some decent size Rainbows and some of them have looked like wild fish with a brilliant deep pink stripe. My best was a 22" Brown from this stretch. Also there are some big Hybrids that cruise in pods of up to a dozen I see pretty often. I seem to hang more fish about 10 ft from the bank than I do fishing in the middle of the river. Good luck!
bferg Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Thanks guys...probably going to go with the put on at Housman and head up to the bridge...hoping there are some smallies around too... Appreciate the advice. Anything special I need to have in the box? Thanks

rps Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 The deep pool just down from the bridge on the side opposite Houseman put in has timber laydowns. Two browns over 5 from there on countdown Rapalas. The deep hole just above the bridge has some refrigerator size rocks in it that hold fish in the shade and eddies.
bferg Posted July 30, 2012 Author Posted July 30, 2012 Called an audible and put in at Beavertown and went up the river a little ways. Caught two fish right at the old bridge by Beavertown- both on Kai Tech swim baits- on back to back casts. Didn't get bit again..... Off the water by 10 since it was already getting pretty uncomfortable.....
