Kansas Fly Fisher Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Finally got a break from work and took off for some fishing. The wife and I went to Bennett for the weekend with some fishing and good ol' snoozing planned. The fish were on most of the time. Saturday was by far the best with almost 50 for the day. Friday was slower, but I only fished from about 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, started a bit slow but turned on real quick, especially right before, during and, for a while, after the rain. The "hands down" fly of the weekend was a #16 zebra midge with a nickle head. This little jewel accounted for well over 80% of the total fish. The brown disco bugger came in a close second, followed by a white disco bugger and a brown/olive wool head leech. Totals for Friday: 7 fish. Saturday: estimated close to 50. Lost count and was having way too much fun to bother. Sunday resulted in just over two dozen from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. when the wife decided it was time to leave the water Friday I fished just below the first handicap pier to the riffles. I fished all of zone 1 and zone 2 on Saturday with most of the fish coming from below the first handicap pier to just above the big dam. Sunday I spent most of my time on the flats just above the big dam. I spent a little time later in the morning and early afternoon chasing some big browns up around the shallows just below the first handicap pier. They were looking hard at, some chasing, but only a few hitting a brown / olive wool head leech. tight lines . . . John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
