minnowhooker Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 First, the Cedar Ridge ramp is closed because off the low lake level but as most of you know the campground launch is open an you can use it instead. Second, caught ten crappie using a chartreuse jig and crappie nibble had minnows but the jig seemed to work the best. Kept moving until I found some brush with fish around 20'. Got on the water at 5:30 left at 10:30.
fishbait3 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 i have a coworker that has been slaying crappie with minnows they are fishing just off the bottom and around some brush just depends on the part they are going to.
straw hat Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Thanks for the post minnowhoker! Good post. Tried a new spot near Hawker and sure enough I found some crappie at 20' on a brushpile. Came up with 6 nice ones before the heat got to much. Water temp on the surface was 90 and at 5' down was 88. Whew that is warm.
Members charliehorsejigs Posted August 10, 2012 Members Posted August 10, 2012 Two friends from work went out of CC ramp toward Shaw's Bluff last Saturday and the Sunday before. They and their partners got their limits both days. They were using 8 to 9 foot poles and staying back from the trees because the fish were spooking easily. It's no wonder because the fish were all no more than 8 feet down. I guess that's where the oxygen is best for them right now. They caught just as many small ones as the keepers. I would never have thought they would be that shallow in all this heat. They were using tube jigs. Don't know the color. They had minnows also, but they didn't do any good with them.
