dennis boatman Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Kayaked from Bennett to Barclay Thursday morning. On the water at 7:30. Didn't have anyone else on the river till about 10:45. 4 trout, all above NRO. I still haven't caught a trout below NRO. Maybe I need to spend more time below and less time above. Took me about 5 hours to get to NRO and 2 hours on down to Barclay. River was low, but floatable. The canoers were having some trouble with the low water. Had fun. A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Gavin Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Timing is everything...sounds like your caught fish early...you didnt late in the midst of some floaters...try it during the week...or take a nap and wait the flotilla out...you will do better.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I assume they still stock right above Barclay so there should be some fish down there. There are also more people on that part of the river bank though. Sometimes you have to fish fast water obstructions on the Niangua to find trout and it takes several attempts sometimes to get a decent drift. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
