Quillback Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Went out in Jeb's boat this morning, launched at 0545, back on the trailer around 1100. We fished mid-lake humps, points, and deep brush piles, caught about 2 dozen black bass (mostly spots), no big ones, mainly 12" fish and a couple around the 15" mark. Drop shotting finesse worms, and Robo worms caught the most, with a few on the Cabelas spoon and I think Jeb got a couple on a c-rig. Couple of short walleye, and at the end of the morning we ran into a white bass attack and boated 8-10 nice 2 lb. whites in a short period of time, then they moved off and disappeared. It was time to go home anyway, the pleasure boat traffic was getting annoying. Not a bad day for Beaver in August, maybe the cooler weather is getting them going. When we passed the PC COE launch, saw a bunch of boats getting ready for a tourney start, anyone know what tourney that was and the results?
J-Doc Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 We launched out of Hickory Creek public ramp and I got there around 5:50. I saw quite a few boats headed towards War Ealge in a big hurry. One boat was planed out so much, I think he had 3-4ft of hull still in the water. He was headed somewhere in a hurry so I figured there must have been a local tounrament happening. By the time Jolicious showed up to the ramp, I had already snagged a small black on a Skitter Walk after he kept bumping my mini-frog and couldn't take it under. Then we went down below the marina to the big bluff wall and I got this nice black on the Skitter Walk again. Jolicious caught several on a shakey head worm and that was the best luck we had. There were bass shallow but most were suspended on humps and ledges out in the open vs. the bank where we were fishing. We had fun though. I'm still surprised we didn't catch more. Quillback Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 That's a nice bass for this time of year.
jeb Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 We had a good time, especially for a Saturday in the middle of summer! I'm not big on fishing white bass, but we ran into a real pile of them at the end, and it was fun to catch a bunch real quick like that. We were both catching them on light spinning tackle, so it put more challenge into it. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
