Windsor Report 8-12-12

We fished from 4-8pm today.

Water: 84 degrees

2ft low and clear 6-8ft vis.

Fish: suspended in open water

Thermocline: 20 feet deep

There were a few skiers and pontoons out, but it didnt affect the fishing just the fishermen.

Caught 3 on the drop shot in 15-20 FOW.

Then we had 16 on topwater chasing around the schooling fish. Mostly slot fish.

Downsizing your bait is the key here.

I fished a zara spook and a super fluke with zero success.

Dad threw a spittin image and started catching few.

Then I switched to a small sluggo about the length of my pinky finger. (blue/white)

That was the trick, light line and short casts downwind.

It was like throwing a cigarette butt into the wind.

The fish would disperse and go back down if you ran the outboard over the school.

We really had to sneak up on them and most of the time.

they would go back down before we got within casting range.

The threadfin have spawned really well this summer.

The balls of shad were huge but the shad were 1" long, mybe the size of a crappie jig.

Thats what prompted me to downsize.

This bite should continue into the fall, so Im pumped abou that.

Also, I talked to another fisherman who was catching lots of bass at Loch Lomond at night.

He claims theres grass in that lake right now and the bass are hanging out around it.

We might give that a try next time.

Thanks for the report, I haven't fished Windsor in about 3 weeks, but last time I was there I noticed the shad you mention, they were all over the place. This fall and winter should be good.
