stlfisher Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 So after some debate and discussion the soon to be wife and I decided to scratch the beach and resort for a mountain cabin in the Smokey Mountains for our honeymoon. This is good news for me as that means a bit of fishing. I am still narrowing down cabin choices and the itinery, but generally speaking we would like to do some day hikes in which we walk most of the morning fish for a couple hours and then hike back out. To be honest I haven't even researched many trails or spots to fish yet, but if anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be wonderful. Any other must see stuff in the area? I like beaches and all, but this is gonna better. I hope she doesn't divorce me before we get back.
fly2fish Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Try the Abrams Falls trail on the Cades Cove loop, it is about a 4 mile hike up following the creek most of the way. I fished from the confluence by the parking lot up only about the first 1/2 mile and caught several trout one morning in March a few years ago. There was a fly shop in Gatlinburg that was just left of the main intersection when coming in from Pidgeon Forge that was located upstairs in a strip shopping center that had good info. F2F
KCRIVERRAT Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Pidgeon Forge! I'd use Dolly Parton flies. Doesn't matter what color... she wears a coat of many. Have a great HM buddy... HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
slider Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 We were in Gatlinburg in July fore about a week didn't do any fishing but there local vacation channel told of a lot of places to go. If you have never been to Cades Cove try to drive the loop there. We saw 15 bears and countless deer and turkeys. Was as close as 10 yards from some of the bears and deer, got some great pictures. Enjoy your trip. Slider DONT EVER GIVE UP MOSES WAS A BASKET CASE ONCE!

moguy1973 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I fished over on the other side of the mountains from pigeon forge in Cherokee NC. It's mainly stocked but the fishing is excellent and is said to be the best mountain trout fishing in the east. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
