Greg Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Terry that's too bad about the knee. You didn't do that wading/fishing did you? If so that's scary. I've always thought fishing was fairly safe. I quit playing pickup basketball 7 or 8 years ago because I had several friends go down with torn ACL's. Terry Beeson Posted October 21, 2006 Author Posted October 21, 2006 The knee is a result of "Dunlop" disease... my belly "dun lopped" over my belt buckle... Actually, I think it came from a golf injury back in 1998. I twisted it and had some problems until one day some "gremlin" stuck an ice pick through it and I went to the floor. Went to a orthopedic surgeon who had an MRI done. I had a horse shoe shaped tear in the pad that got flapped open causing the pain. Somehow between the MRI and the next appointment, it got turned back and I was walking fine. The OS recommended I wait on the surgery until it happened again. Then, in 2002 it happened again and I had the surgery. I've done fine, except some occasional arthritic pain. That is, until Thursday night. I'm sure after the MRI, I'll go under the knife again... Wading is pretty rough on the knees, but not as much as golf... that's why I traded my golf clubs for a fly rod... Glad you guys enjoyed last night (just kiddin'... I really am glad...) duckydoty Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I did make it down there last night. Got there about 6:40 due to traffic by Silver Dollar City. Caught a 17 inch brown off the bat while there was still some light on a size 18 bead head sow bug at outlet # 2 stayed there for a while and picked up a small bow. Went up to outlet 1 with a lighted indicator and nothing on the sow bug. Went to the truck around 10:00 P.M. for a potty break then down to the rebar hole. Started using size 6 cone head made from the real fine flashaboo stuff in a pearl color and started getting some hits. Picked up a couple of rainbows at the rebar hole then moved down to the bar going to the point started getting lots of action there on almost every cast. Caught 9 browns in a row and pick up 2 more rainbows. Then the phone call came that the kids were acting up had to leave at midnight right in the middle of the feeding frenzy. Ran into a couple of fellas at the parking lot while leaving-I forgot their names but tried to point them in the right direction and gave them the conehead I was using. Danoinark Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Leonard it always good to run into you and again thanks for the tips and flys. I sure will take you up on one of those excursions one of these days soon. Ducky sorry I missed you. Sounds like you did real good, much better than me. I have to get my learning curve up some. All these guys down there fishing at night and we not running into each other. Maybe we need to get some glow sticks or something so we can identify us... Terry Beeson Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 Got there about 6:40 due to traffic by Silver Dollar City. That shortcut is pretty good until you get to SDC... I've been doing 160 all the way to 65 and down. Caught a 17 inch brown off the bat... I thought live bait was illegal up there.... You know... I wonder if a "bat fly" would work on those bigguns... Surely they've tasted one of those bats that hang out down there... duckydoty Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Speaking of bat flies--- while at the rebar hole, I caught the glimpse of a bat flying over the water and it swooped down real close the the surface. I was sure I saw a huge swirl like a fish chasing it Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Roaring River Veteran Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Ducky, I'm the guy that you met in the parking lot. I want to thank you again for the conehead. It worked great. I caught several fish. We got there about 10pm and fished below 2 and then I moved down below rebar. I caught a few fish on purple bunny leaches and a few on black. I saw several fish in the current above rebar that would go 10lb + but couldn't get any to bite. I did catch 1 23" to 24" male brown that had great color and a big hook jaw. I would guess him in the 7 to 8 lb range. I forgot my camera so I don't have a picture but he fought hard and tore the heck out of my thumb with his teeth. when I was taking the hook out. We met ducky at midnight, during a break, as he was leaving. He gave me a cone head and I fished it the rest of the night. We left about 2:45am and the parking lot was still full. Good luck and good fishing RRV Good luck and Good fishing RRV
duckydoty Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Wish I could have stayed a little longer but the kids butts needed some attention Went back down last night and fished 7:30 till 10:30. A little slower fishing last night--only 4 browns, the largest being 18 inches and 2 rainbows on the pearl conehead Duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!!
