steve l Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 OK all, this is really more of a general question, but will start referencing the Current so we'll put it here. The wife & I are looking at a float in early October - will go three days meaning two nights. Do the Jacks Fork in the Spring & the 11P in the summer, so don't want either of them. We did the Big Piney last fall from Slabtown to Ross, and that was a perfect distance. Looking for ideas - note we'll go Thursday to Saturday. It looks like in these forums that Round Springs to Two Rivers might do us well. Any other suggestions in the area either Current stretches or other rivers? I said no JF, but it's been a long time since I was on the JF below Alley - what's it like down there? Let the suggestions & ideas flow - thanks.
Gavin Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Round to Two Rivers is a nice float...so is Two Rivers to Logyard...might see a few jet boats though.
GloryDaze Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 My wife and I will be going first weekend in October. We usually base camp at Pulltite. We put in at Aker's, they shuttle car down to Round Spring. First day we float from Aker's to base camp. Next day we head down to Round Spring. Gives us 2 nights at Pulltite with plenty of time to explore, hike, etc.... Probably not as far as you nay want to go, but a great trip either way. Can't go wrong with any float on the Current in my opinion. Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
cnr Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 If you wanted to drive a little farther it's hard to beat the Buffalo in AR.
Gavin Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 There are no bad floats...but Akers to Pulltite doesnt offer quality fishing...Its much better above and below. I float Akers to Pulltite at least once a year...and there arent many fish there. Fantastic scenery though.
Al Agnew Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 You asked about the lower Jacks Fork...nice water from Alley Spring for about three miles or so, then you get into the sections around Eminence that were left out of the Scenic Riverways. Lots of cabins, houses, campgrounds, some of them pretty ugly. You don't get back into the Riverways until about three miles or so below Eminence, and from there on down it's very nice, with some gorgeous scenery and decent fishing. The fishing between Alley and Eminence is pretty poor, because, like the Current below Akers, it's too heavily spring-fed and too cool for good smallmouth fishing. There has been an ongoing problem with all the horses and trail riding on the lower Jacks Fork, but it's not as bad as it once was, and the water quality is pretty decent. In fact, I was just on the Jacks Fork from Eminence to Two Rivers last week, and caught a few decent fish and saw a couple of 20 inch plus smallies. On the Current, you may see a few jetboats between Round Spring and Two Rivers, and you're more likely to encounter them below Two Rivers. But actually the float from Powdermill to Van Buren is gorgeous waer, and won't be too crowded by then. If we have an early leaf fall, it discourages some of the jet boaters because it's a real pain to run a jet in the leaves.
