jdmidwest Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Just booked a trip for next weekend and was wondering what was going on with the river this year. I have read the Whitton ramp is closed. I have also seen some reports that there is a log jamb around Turner. What is the status? I am going to fish the upper end first. Later we are going to hit the stretch from Riverton to ? for some smallmouth. We are bringing the new and improved jet boat and going to cover some water this weekend. May even bag some teal if they are using the river. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Brian Sloss Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 It is fishing well, but it is also very low. Took a guide trip out this week and they caught lots of trout. Jet or no jet, there are some shallow shoals so be careful. Had a canoe float riverton to 142 and did well on the smallmouth. Not so much a log jam, that spot is about about 2 miles down from Turner and has been trouble on lower water for years. It is locally referred to as Fish Dam. The water has gotten low enough now that it is not as bad, though with a jet it is not really an issue anyway. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Members ChazRock Posted September 12, 2012 Members Posted September 12, 2012 Hey everybody! Looks like it's been a great summer. Our group is coming down weekend after next. Can't wait! Is Whitten completely shut down for pull out?
Mark Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I'm wondering the same thing. Does "shut down" mean you cannot get down there at all just to pull out canoe? How about the last turn before the long stretch heading to Whitten? The road leads back to the gravel bar used by locals to fish from the bank. It would be possible to load up the canoe there but wondering if road is totally closed down.
Brian Sloss Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Yes it is completely closed down, no canoes going in or coming out there. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Members ChazRock Posted September 13, 2012 Members Posted September 13, 2012 Thanks for the info Brian. Plans will be made accordingly. Hope to see you on the river again this year. Always a pleasure!
Mark Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Brain - when you get to the bottom of the hill at Whitten, the road forks with one going to Whitten access and the other goes down a trail to the gravel bar that is at the last right turn on the river before Whitten that the locals use to bank fish. Is that closed down also?
jdmidwest Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 Spending Sunday afternoon and Monday on the lower end from Riverton to 142. Floating the Spring River tomorrow and heading back to the 11pt on Sun. May get some fishing in around Greer waiting on my buddy to come in. Looks like a little rain for the entire time. Packed a gun and some dekes, I may try to find some teal while I am in the area. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
