MOBass Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I went down to the dam area and the water was slowly dropping out when I got there in the AM. Fished a glo ball below outlet 1 for a couple of missed bites. Moved down towards outlet 2 as the water continued to drop and found no love on the glo ball. Stopped a little below outlet 2 and caught a couple of fish with no size to thm on a gnat and missed several others. Switched back to a glo ball and worked down towards re bar and back for a few small browns and bows. Ended up at outlet 2 and fished a white wolly bugger for a couple of fish. Called it and worked my way back to the truck. Overall a decent day for numbers but not what I was hoping for. Side notes - Saw a lot of browns milling around below outlet 2 and got a couple to go on a glo ball. Any thoughts on how to coax these fish to bite? Had two guys step right in next to me. One even went so far as to walk directly in front of me to where my cast were landing. I am not into combat fishing and it isn't worth raising my blood pressure so I just move it along. I'll be glad to see the weather continue to cool and thin the crowds further. There's nothing like being on the water with snow on the bank, no one in sight, and the fish biting.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 23, 2006 Root Admin Posted October 23, 2006 There's nothing like being on the water with snow on the bank, no one in sight, and the fish biting. You got that right. Fishin's better too.
Members Larry Murphy Posted October 24, 2006 Members Posted October 24, 2006 I had a run in with a guy last weekend too. Was at Bennett, and a guy with a 6' Ugly Stick (looked like a surf rig) came in next to me. He'd cast way up stream with a spinner and woolie, basically did his best to use the entire area. I did my best to fish around the guy, but it was tough. I was catchign fish constantly, and he never had a smell. Started helping my son-in-law with a birds nest (new fly fisherman), and my fly line touched his rod. The guy then called me rude, and accused our entire party (4 of us) of being rude. I asked him what he was talking about, said "rude people don't know when they are rude, they just are...." I explained that his explanation didn't make any sense, and that I didn't consider myself rude. He then stormed off. If you fish places like Taney and Bennett very often, eventually you'll see it all.
Randall Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 i've never had a problem on taney with people being rude, and only a handfull at most at the parks. my experience is that the fishermen on taney are more experienced and easier to get along with and learn from. about the worst i've seen on the lake was a lady yell at my buddy for holding a nice brown out of the water while we took a picture. the bait fishing areas of the parks can get tense from time to time, but its been about two years since i've had a confrontation at meremec, and i just stay away from those areas at montauk and bennett. Cute animals taste better.
Bob A Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Larry, your post re: Rudeness, Bennett Spring. Now if you really think about it, maybe you were rude to that dummy. I mean, after all, you were catching fish and he was not! Is that rude or what? Now we know why some agnlers will pay $1,000 a week to fish private waters. If I could afford it, I would too. Bob A
