Why won't the state stock brown trout in the Eleven Point? Is it because of the hellbender??? Browns would rock in that river!

That would be awesome...but dont hold your breath. The USFS rules the roost down there and I believe that they have a policy prohibiting the introduction of non-native species.

...other than stocking non native gray trout a few times a year?? I wonder if the case can be made that it would increase the quality of the fishery and possible have a positive economic impact. That could get someones attention.

We have been down that road and lost that battle. Our previous state biologist proposed it a few times and the forest service said no, siting the hellbender. Rainbow trout are grandfathered in. We did a big petition and everything and even though the hellbender problem seems to be more kiptrid fungus related than predation, no dice. Even though hellbenders are having the same problem in non trout rivers. We would grow some of the biggest browns in the ozarks though.
