Have a trip coming up in three weeks. Never fished big size eight stone flies before. That will be a nice change. I am used to using size 18 zebra midges on 6x tipped on the tail waters.

What tippet size do you recommend for the big stone flies. I was thinking 4x, or do I need 5x because of the clear water. I would hate to fight some of those bigger fish on 5x though.

I used 4x on my last trip, but you could probably get away with 3x.

Not an expert by no means, but used 3x last week with no problems apparently. I done had it tided on from a prior bass fishing trip. But I did have absolutely perfect conditions, My 4 year old nephew could have caught fish.

Went down to 6x Saturday w little to show for it. The fish just weren't active.

Thats dissapointing Gavin man they sure need some rain down that way.

This last weekend was as bad as I have ever seen it there. Slow fishing with a lot of good anglers from Hargrove's. Thats how it goes sometimes. It's good to get your teeth kicked in once in a while!

We got our butts kicked thats for sure...Still a good time...Great bunch of folks in camp this weekend. The fish just werent on....One of the guys was down for 10 days...He did really well earlier in the week but he struggled like everyone else this weekend...Timing is everything. Gotta keep on keeping on and wait for your turn.

I've been using 4X to main fly and 5x to dropper. Just set your drag right and put every fish on your reel and you won't break off. By the way, I don't think I even own 6X, sometimes can be hard to get 5X through a little dry hook though.
