Tying Video -- Rich Strolis's Hog Snare.

Hey guys, kicking off a new series with fly tyer Rich Strolis. I have been pretty excited about this one for a while. I have fished the Hog Snare for around a year and have hung some really, really nice fish on them. The action in the water is phenominal and will defenitely keep your attention.

Recipe:

Rear Hook Hook - Gamakatsu B10s #2

Tail - Marabou

Hackle - Schlappen

Body - Ice Dub

Rubber Legs

Wing - Craft Fur(or Artic Fox)

Middle Hook:

Hook - Fish Skull Articulated Shank 35mm

Tail - Marabou

Hackle - Schlappen

Body - Ice Dub

Rubber Legs

Wing - Craft Fur (or Arctic Fox)

Front Hook:

Hook - Gamakatsu B10s

Interesting with the craft fur substitute I have been digging the artic fox as a wing on a few streamer patterns but it is kind of a pain and you certainly don't get much bang for your buck with that stuff. I have tied up a dozen of these but I did the lazer dub dubbing loop figure eight the dumbell eyes to create a head the way your doing it looks like it might make a bigger profile and push a little more water.

What size dumbell eyes are you using and are you seeing much of a difference between say medium and small dumbell eyes?

I usually have at least a small 'tweak' that I do with these flies and that Craft Fur is pretty big (in my mind at least). With it reverse-tied, you should see it flare in the water. That stuff pulsates with every strip.

Absolutely no offense to Rich in his design but I didn't see where the dubbing loop and a smaller "cone" on the head would help the fly, mostly because once the Lazer Dub gets real wet it lays pretty flat anyway so I just keep stacking it to the eye.

Better be entertaining as long as that SOB was . That's a fly you paddle upstream to retrieve! Very good looking fly.

I actually had a hard time even going with such a long video....but that fly is sick and you have seen that Rainbows will eat it even when you are not ready for them to (like when you pull spool off of your reel)
