Rockaway Beach Fishing Tips

I'm making a day trip to Rockaway Beach for a couple hours fishing. Got Cabin fever bad and need to wet a line for a while. Never been there and wondering about fishing from the dock. I'm use to fishing Powerball eggs with #14 hooks, two lb line at Roaring River, Jolly Mills and Hickery Creek in Neosho. I could use some good advise about fishing at Rockaway Beach. Thanks for looking

Well the island would be your best bet, It's public and has a fishing dock. A better choice might be Empire park and fish off of the dock there. MDC won't devulge stocking numbers, but it's not hard to figure out that Empire gets more fish. If you don't no where Empire is take 160 into Forsyth and turn right at the 4 way stop, it's on the east end of town. That road will take you right to Empire park.

The best advice from what I hear is to use 2 eggs of different colors on one hook.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

using a bobber or sinker?

Power bait or three or four grains of corn on trout hook, a split shot about 2' above the hook and a 1/4 oz bell sinker above that. Chuck it as far out and down from the dock as you can.

How is it that they will choke on corn but can eat other things the same size with no ill affects? Doesn't seem logical to me. I'm not saying your wrong, I would just like an explanation is all.

I have been told that they can't digest it. FYI though, it seems they don't really know the difference between corn and yellow Power Bait.
