Being a rookie flyfisherman from Independence, Mo. does anyone have any ideas on clubs or organizations that I should attempt to join in an endeavor to further my education, locally, regionally, nationally. I want to fish mostly Taney and my father lives in Mtn. Home,Ark. so I would like to fish the White and Norfork as well.

Good to have you here, and welcome. There is a lot of great information here, so enjoy. BTW, if you need anyone to show you the ropes fishing the White River System, hint, hint, wink, wink, I can go, and suggest a few guides. ;):D

Welcome to the "nut hou..." I mean the forum...

You're taking a great first steps in fly fishing... join a forum and join a club. You will find 99% of fly fishermen more than anxious to share information and help you learn about this new addiction you have...

I would certainly recommend joining a club associated with the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) some of which are listed on the link that russ posted.

And, as he said... If you need someone to go with you to Taney, Bull Shoals TW, or Norfork, there will be plenty of volunteers... (My MIL lives in Mt Home... so I visit her frequently... ;) )

When I was in Illinois I was with the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance. They have a Bassbuggers group that meets about once a month or so at One-More-Cast Fly Shop and learn to tie Flies. They would generally get about 8-10 guys out for some good conversation and practice tying Flies. I don't see that around here or maybe I haven't looked. That would be a good deal for a Fly Shop to start as it brings people into the shop they tie Flies and learn from it and buy some materials and supplies from the host shop.

The Kansas City chapter of the Missouri Trout Fishermans Assoociation (KCMTFA) holds fly tying classes during the year. They have been holding classes for many, many years. I first learned about Fly tying and fly fishing from the MTFA back in the late 1950's. The chapter is still very active and continues to be dedicated to improving Trout fishing in Missouri. I was a very active member in those early years.

Visit their web site at: www.geocities.com/kcmtfa/

Dave Cook is the current President.
