They change colors based on time of year, bottom composition, etc. I scuba dive on Beaver and have seen several different colored ones in the same area. Size varies a lot, too.

For a current description, see "nwaoutdoorsman" post towards the end of the "Beaver report 1/5/13" thread in this forum.

The ones I've seen lately have been a medium to dark olive with orange on the pinchers and orange splotches along the body. But Jeb is right, they will change colors at different times of the year. I fileted some walleye a couple weeks ago and they were full of them. I wanted to take some pics, but my hands were nasty and I didn't want that all over my phone, but I wish I had. As far as crawdads go they were some of the most brilliantly colored I've ever seen.

Thats the same crawfish that you will find all over Arkansas.

Some of them have a checkerboard pattern thats very hard to paint.

Ive also seen them with a olive green back, hint of teal on the sides, and a khaki belly.

I'm looking for mid to late april

I might get slammed for this but those fish dont know any different.

my 3 main colors:

brown back,olive sides, orange belly

olive back, red sides, orange belly

brown back, khaki sides and belly

or olive with a khaki belly.

It really doesnt matter, but its a confidence thing for fishermen
