Jdecoudres Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 anyone seen these or had a chance to throw one? Looking for some reviews
jdmidwest Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I just bought a 4pc, 4wt 8' Access rod and love it. I am told it uses the Helios technology with less exotic window dressing. I love it so far, light and responsive. I have only fished it a couple of times this fall. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Members stlskyline Posted January 17, 2013 Members Posted January 17, 2013 I have not used one but did see an orvis helios ZG 7'4wt 4 piece on another site going for 450 obo, so you would expect it to be nice for that price. I do not know what the ZG implies vs. not one
Members Adam B Posted January 31, 2013 Members Posted January 31, 2013 The ZG is the original Helios. The Helios 2 is supposedly better. Haven't used a 2 yet though. I'd check Yellowstone Anglers website for the review. Heres an older one. http://www.yellowstoneangler.com/FlyRodReview.Best5weightflyrod.HardyZenith.SageZ-axis.WinstonB3x.WinstonBIIIx.LoomisNRX.SageVXP.StCroixLegendEliteTempleforkBVK.asp
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I would buy 6 to maybe 8 different rods for the price of one of the Helios rods. glass and graphite both. I have an arm that can hold a fly rod.. probably 3 or even more at one time..wow..magic? no.. Whether it weighs 3 ounces or 6 ounces.. for hours on end, my arm can hold on to it... So can all of us. (most of us all really) Do not believe the marketing hype! (unless you can totally afford it.. then by all means.. blow it!) For the price of one Orvis Helios2 rod I could buy line weights 3-7. 4 rods.. and 2 backups... and reels and line.
