Just moved to Marshfield. Just wanting to know of some good fishing spots around the area. Can anyone give me some directions to any good spots? Thanks.

I believe that fishing is usually better when there is a full moon. People are more crazy when there is a full moon. Thank God He made fish the way He did so I can have better fishing when people are crazier than normal.

I'm from the Nixa area so I'm not REAL familiar with whats close to you. I would think that the Finley would be your best bet. It starts at Lindenlure I believe, which is maybe a 30 min drive from Marshfield??? There has been a big to-do about Lindenlure and whether or not its public. Use to be there would be alot of people down there swimming in the summers, now I'm not so sure. If I were you I'd drive on down to the ozark park and paddle up river and float back down to your vehicle. I caught some good largemouth there in the park area last year. I mostly fish the James in the nixa area. Thats prob 45min-1hour drive for you. Delaware town access and Shelvin rock access being the main access points. You could also hit I-44 east up to Lebanon and hit the Niangua. Bennett Springs is big time trout waters, but down river there is some good smallie fishing. It gets a pretty good party crowd in the summer on weekends though. There may be good water closer to you that I don't know about, if so hopefully someone will chime in. Hit me up if you go, I'm always looking for someone to go fishing with! Unfortunatley I have this nasty disease called WORK that only allows me to fish on the weekends :/

If you can find a copy of Chuck Tryon's book, "200 Missouri Smallmouth Adventures", it will give you just about every possible smallmouth stream to the south. Unfortunately, Chuck ran out of energy before he got to the Niangua River system, so anything from there to the northwest isn't covered. And there is a lot of good water on the upper Niangua that isn't far from Marshfield.

Other than that, your biggest problem in finding good smallmouth water is in figuring out usable accesses, especially on the smaller streams. That's mainly a matter of getting out the Delorme Atlas for Missouri, looking at any stream that has permanent flow and finding where roads cross it, and then exploring. The exploring can be very interesting, and give you a good working knowledge of the area. MDC's Conservation Atlas of Missouri will also help you there. And get the float streams book from MDC as well, and you'll have about all the tools you need to find your own spots.

Coach Bell lives up there. Taught with him for years. Hassel is his first name. Find him and he will know what is happening.

Just head down A Highway south from Marshfield, turn right on K highway not far out of town and you can hit some creeks that flow south. The Upper James and Panther Creek, check out Big Bell and Little Bell Springs, and Compton Hollow access. Good fishing holes all through that area.

If you continue down A Highway to US 60, head west through Fordland until U Highway, turn south. This you can follow U south and then to the west and access the upper Finley on many of the county roads (Olga, Braden, Rosemead...) on your left. Good spots all through there too.

In the late spring/early summer you can float these areas if the waters good and you pack light. Access at low water crossings. You can find all this on the map pretty easily, check it out.

And catch/release if you don't mind.

Thank you very much and I only catch and release anymore. Its always better fishing when I know the fish are still going to be there when I go next time.
