JohnP Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Hunted a lil spot my boys and I have dubbed the "Holy Hole" with a buddy and we managed to scratch out 3 mallard, 1 gwt, and 6 gadwall. Hunted till 12:30 before calling it. Shoulda been and had our chances at our limits but it just wasn't meant to be . Started out pretty decent for the first 30 minutes then was the wait every 45 to an hour for the next group. Didn't see a lot but the ones we did see worked well. Saw maybe 75 birds total.
Feathers and Fins Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Gaddies are so underrated for color, the second pic second from left is a nice looking bird, glad you got into them, chaulked up 14 more this morning but just got in and the ponds are all thawing out so looks like a bust for my hole until next wendesday. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
JohnP Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 A mature fully plummed drake gaddie is a beautiful bird as is the drake gwt. Congrats on your 14 FnF.
JohnP Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Fun hunt til I went to pick up dekes and realized the silt on the opposite bank was alili thicker and deeper than I expected  nothing like being in ankle deep water sunk up to the waist in silt. Then the walk out was fun walking 200 plus yds in melting permafrost that was hard ground on the walk in and then not so much on the walk out . And i'd do it again. Gotta love the silt catch where the creek meets the lake .
Feathers and Fins Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Dont get any waterfowler started on the nice permafrost going in only to find muck on the way out. nothing like hauling a cart in 3/4 mile in the am in 20 minutes and 1 hour out. I feel for ya though https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
