David Unnerstall Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 My father-in-law gave me his fishing equipment before he passed away. I did get out one of his two fly rods and messed around with it the past couple of years. I got the other two rods out of the shed this week. One is a bamboo fly rod and the other is a Garcia Conolon 2508t spinning rod. In his tackle box was a Daiwa spinning reel that I had to disassemble, flush out and re-lubricate. I attached the reel to the rod and spooled up and was amazed at how sensitive this rod is. I have a better than average graphite rod and a St. Croix that I bought at the local tackle store but this rod is amazing. Everything that is going on at the end of the line can be felt at the handle. I have done some research and learned that Conolon was used in aircraft during WWII and since wars cannot last forever they went into rod building. Garcia bought the process in the early sixties. Does anyone else own any of these rods?
timsfly Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I don't have that rod, but I do own several Conolon fly rods, I fish a 6' one a lot, one of my favorite fiberglass rods.
