Al Agnew Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Ron, I've listened to Bush enough to pretty well know how he normally speaks, and this wasn't the same. I have no problem with it...after all, any politician will use whatever means available to fit in with whatever crowd they are speaking to in order to establish a rapport with them. I just kinda wonder if anybody else noticed, and if anybody felt a little put off by it. By the way, Bush's Texas accent was certainly not his original one, since he was mainly raised in the Northeast.
MTM Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Iwas raised in the south and to this day will revert back to saying Y'ALL and such. Hard to get rid of things like that. My Wife is from Long Island New York and I am sure you know they have some weird language. She goes back to it when her sisters visit each year. I hear it but she sure dosen't LOL. Just the way of life. ron
Members TexomaOkie Posted November 6, 2006 Author Members Posted November 6, 2006 I listened to snippets of the President's speeches in SW MO today. Is it just me, or did he seem to make his speech patterns more "country-hick" than normal while speaking in our state? He sounded like he was trying to sound like Harry Truman...or a country-western singer. It's interesting you've mentioned that. I listened to him in Waco, TX over the weekend and had that exact thought. I think it's his way of trying to relate, on a more personal level, with a specific audience. I'm a native of southern Oklahoma and I remember thinking how much he sounded like "one of us". Depending upon whom I'm conversing with, I catch myself doing the same thing.
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 My daughter was raised in Oklahoma and Western Missouri and now lives in California, has for quite a few years, and her friends say it takes her a couple of weeks to get rid of her accent after she visits here. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Thom Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I have to agree that Bush is not as dumb as people think. I watched the entire speech that he made at springfield and learned many new things that I didn't know. Just to mention a few: Democrats don't believe in freedom of religion, Democrats don't believe in freedom of speech, and the topper that Matt Blunt is actually Jim Talent's son. If you don't believe it look at the replay of the introduction. It might be noted however that Talent quickly denied it and walked over to the commander in chief and told him so. Thom Harvengt
Members jeff Posted November 8, 2006 Members Posted November 8, 2006 I watched part of Bush's speech and it was almost funny. He accused Democrats of secretly plotting to raise taxes, and he made fun of them for not having a plan in Iraq, while he hasn't had a plan in Iraq for years now.

He accused Democrats of secretly plotting to raise taxes, and he made fun of them for not having a plan in Iraq, while he hasn't had a plan in Iraq for years now. Remember, the war was supported by an overwhelming majority when it began. Even when WMD's weren't found, the majority still supported the war. I do believe misjudgement has characterized our governments plan beyond the overthrow of Saddam. However, I think it's a fair question, so I'll ask. What is the Democratic plan? I've heard "Get Out", but that requires a plan. I've not heard any details articulated.
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I've heard transfer them to Okinawa, why I don't know because I thought the Japanese wanted our presence there phased out? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members jeff Posted November 11, 2006 Members Posted November 11, 2006 I've heard a couple of plans floated around. One involves troop reductions starting in 2007 and another involves splitting the Iraqi government into 3 sections with provisional authority. I don't know if either will work, I doubt anything will work in a civil war, but at least they are ideas. The point was that the president was chastising others for not having a plan when he has no plan himself. I believe the phrase is "the pot calling the kettle black". But then again he also said on Nov 1 that Rumsfeld was staying for the duration of his term, that Rumsfeld and Cheney were "doing fantastic jobs and I strongly support them."
MTM Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 IF I remember right it took our country 9 years to get things together. They have been at it for 3 years. Seems everyone has an idea but no one has an answer. Seeems the people in this country want everything yesterday. They are use to gettting things fast. Well not everything can be fast. Some take time. While I agree that we need to get them moving I also know that the media in this county has made it a one sided war. They have given the death totals every day for the last three years. Not becuase we needed to know but becuae they are pushing an agenda. I believe that they would love nothing better than to see 500 of our troops killed at one time. It would push there point of view even better.Ever see them do anything on something that happened good over there? In world war II we lost 1,000 men in a 7 hour period fighting on an island in the pacific. But back then epople understood that it may take some time and men to get a job that needed doing done. Today people would rather listen to what Opera has to say about the war instead of kinowing the truth. It is easier they don't have to hunt for it becausee it isn't on the TV. I hope it don't take 100,000 people getting killed in this copuntry to get people to understand what is going on and that they are in it even if they don't want to be. I hope the good Lord is looking over this country as we will be needing him. Ron
