Members AJ Brown Posted January 29, 2013 Members Posted January 29, 2013 Hey all, I'm new to waterfowl hunting as of this season - and I got hooked hard and fast. We hunted up near Stockton and did alright, but it was a decent haul every time we went. I was talking to a guy who said his buddy hunts on the James River just upstream of Delaware Town Access. Anyone have any info, regulations, words of wisdom, etc. regarding hunting on the river? It seems like it would be a little tricky considering only the actual waterway is public area. Any input?
Feathers and Fins Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Key is scouting and being mobile do not ever get locked into one area or mindset, the key word in duck hunting is the word MIGRATORY, The birds move and so should the hunter. River hunting can be rewarding or the biggest pain in the butt especially if fish are biting in the area. Also river hunting requires specialized tactics to be productive and each on has its nitch. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members AJ Brown Posted January 29, 2013 Author Members Posted January 29, 2013 Do you know of any regulations for hunting on rivers, especially the James? I'm pretty familiar with it from floating - but I would have never thought about duck hunting on it. I guess I'm confused how, in terms of trespassing, etc., that would work. As long as I stay on the river/river banks I'd be legal to hunt there?

Wait until it freezes. Single digits overnight at least. Take a canoe or small jon boat and stay in it. Don't stand on the bank or in the river bed unless you have permission from the landowner to hunt the private property.
